Never skip a rest day
When the volume, load and intensity is high in your training a injury will at some point occur. When being older you have to give your body more recovery time but to be honest, that’s not always the reality.
It’s hard to rest just because you need to cause you’re old. It’s hard to slow down when you don’t want to.
I have been really “lucky” with my injuries. I have had a fair bit of them but I have always been able to work around them.
I have always managed to recover without to much rest or step backs.
7 weeks ago I hurt my back and that has by far been my worst experience ever. I had to give up a big chunk of my training like all weightlifting, squats, dead lifts, snatch and clean… a big chunk of the fun stuff was simply just gone!
The way back has really tested my patience the hard way. I’m still not 100% recovered but I’m not in pain anymore. Today I put weight on the barbell for the first time in 7 weeks…. A wonderful feeling even though it was baby weights. The back felt good and I didn’t load on more.
I’m not really sure what this experience will give me but if… or when I come out of this stronger and recover to 100% I promise myself to never skip rest day again.
